Question 1

Which is better, AT&T or Xfinity?

Accepted Answer

For the vast majority of users, AT&T Fiber is better than Xfinity because it provides highly reliable symmetrical upload and download speeds, unlimited data, and no monthly equipment rental fees. However, if AT&T Fiber is not available at your address, Xfinity is often the better choice for its wide availability and heavily discounted mobile bundle deals.

Question 2

Does AT&T or Xfinity have better customer service?

Accepted Answer

According to the latest benchmarks from the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), AT&T Fiber scores noticeably higher than Xfinity. Users generally appreciate AT&T's straightforward billing and lack of data caps. While both companies have room for improvement regarding phone wait times, AT&T holds a distinct edge in overall user satisfaction and network reliability.

Question 3

Is Xfinity cheaper than AT&T?

Accepted Answer

Xfinity frequently advertises lower introductory plans that seem cheaper upfront, sometimes starting around $20 to $35 per month. However, AT&T's fiber pricing includes equipment rental and unlimited data. Once you factor in Xfinity's post-promotional rate hikes, modem fees, and data cap charges, AT&T often proves to be the cheaper and more predictable long-term option.

Question 4

Can I avoid the Xfinity data cap if I use my own router?

Accepted Answer

Using your own router eliminates the monthly equipment rental fee, but it does not automatically bypass the 1.2 TB data cap. To avoid data overages while using your own equipment, you must still purchase Xfinity's unlimited data add-on, which typically costs an additional $30 per month.

Question 5

Which provider has better upload speeds for gaming and working from home?

Accepted Answer

AT&T Fiber dominates in upload speeds. Because fiber-optic technology supports symmetrical speeds, a 500 Mbps download plan also provides 500 Mbps of upload speed. Xfinity relies on older coaxial cables, meaning a gigabit download plan might only yield 35 to 200 Mbps of upload speed, which can cause bottlenecks for content creators and remote workers.

Question 6

Is AT&T Internet Air as good as Xfinity cable?

Accepted Answer

AT&T Internet Air is a solid 5G fixed wireless alternative if you want to avoid data caps and installation fees, but Xfinity cable typically provides more stable latency for gaming and heavy streaming. Internet Air relies on local cellular tower signal strength, whereas Xfinity uses physical cables wired directly to your house, making Xfinity more consistent during peak usage hours.

Question 7

Do I have to sign a contract with AT&T or Xfinity?

Accepted Answer

Many AT&T internet offers are straightforward month-to-month arrangements right from the start, allowing you to cancel without penalty. Xfinity, on the other hand, still offers some promotional deals that may require a one- to two-year term agreement in exchange for a lower monthly rate, meaning you could face early termination fees if you move or cancel prematurely.
